A new environmental movement.

As scientific evidence of global warming grows, people are becoming aware of the dangers of carbon emissions, and the option of going “carbon neutral” is an increasingly attractive one. To that end, TerraPass is building a community of members who want to do something about climate change. Through a grassroots educational campaign, they help people calculate their personal carbon impact, and give them advice on what they can do to reduce it through conservation, product choices, and by purchasing carbon offsets. In essence, when members buy offsets, they are paying partners to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and helping fund projects that produce renewable electricity that displace fossil fuel–based electricity from the national electrical system. Together, TerraPass and its members have eliminated more than 600 million pounds of carbon dioxide emissions since the site launched in 2004.
