‘After talking with several investors and then talking to Maveron it was clear they were the partner for us. Not only do they have the track record of building great brands but as a firm they buck the norm of most investors and actually care.’
Based in San Francisco, Dolls Kill is an online apparel boutique that prizes the rebellious spirit—from punk rock and BoHo, to goth to glam. “Not for the easily offended,” explains the company’s Facebook page, in uncharacteristically muted prose. More typical: “If you would rather give an enthusiastic FUCK YOU than conform to the contrived styles of today’s industry,” Dolls Kill proclaims, “then we’ve got you covered.” Co-founded in 2012 by husband-and-wife team Shaudi Lynn and Bobby Farahi, the brand has become a phenomenon for girls and young adult women captivated by its irreverent style. Making strategic use of services like Facebook and Instagram to establish relationships with its passionate consumers, Dolls Kill aims not merely to go after an existing market worldwide, but to create that market. We led Series A funding in the summer of 2014.
